It was an interesting night tonight at WWE Fastlane as there wasn’t any surprises, but still some questionable moves made. Let’s get right to it!
Rich Swan & Akira Tozawa defeat Brian Kendrick & Noam Dar
Result – Swan and Tozawa win by pinfall
Reaction – This pretty much guaranteed a successful title defense from Neville later in the night.
Sami Zayn vs Samoa Joe
Result – Samoa Joe wins with ease.
Reaction – No shock here, Zayn remains the lovable loser as they continue to build Samoa Joe as a hitman / beast. I do wonder to an extent, if they eventually turn Joe face post mania.
Sasha Banks vs Nia Jax
Result- Sasha Banks avenges her multiple losses to Jax with the upset victory here.
Reaction – This set ups the 30 minute Iron Woman match between the two at Mania. We remember the classic they had in NXT.
Bayley © vs Charlotte
Result – Bayley rolls up Charlotte for the pin.
Reaction – The win streak comes to an end for Charlotte, and it appears they are all in for Bayley vs Sasha at Mania. Only question is, does Banks turn heel beforehand or do they play it straight? Only four weeks to figure that out, they better do it quick.
Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson vs Enzo & Cass for Tag Championship
Result – Gallows & Anderson retain.
Reaction – Yet again WWE proves that when you are over as much as Enzo & Cass are, they don’t let you win unless your name is Hogan or Austin.
Neville © vs Jack Gallagher (205)
Result – Neville retains the title
Reaction – This was the best match of the night, and may have saved the 205 division for now. I have to say, this match was a lot better and more competitive than I thought possible. It even got “This is Awesome” chants from the crowd, and very well deserved.
Roman Reigns vs Braun Strowman
Result – Reigns pins Strowman
Reaction – And in one night, the entire year long push of Strowman is over. He is done. As for Reigns, this will clear the path for him to face Taker now.
Kevin Owens vs Goldberg for the WWE Universal Championship
Result – Goldberg pins Owens to become the new WWE Universal Champion.
Reaction – This was terrible, but done perfectly. Owens did a great job in getting everyone to hate him as he stalled for 4 plus minutes walking around the ring refusing to get in. Meanwhile, Jericho comes back to distract him, causing him to be speared, jack hammered and pinned. Effectively setting up the Owens vs Jericho match at Mania. Only one question remains, can Goldberg actually have a match with Lesnar, or are we headed for another gimmick match with the two where the intro’s take longer than the in ring action.
Elsewhere on the card, there were two impromptu matches not originally billed as Cesaro defeated Jinder Mahal and Big Show pinned Rusev. It was nice to see two guys in Show and Cesaro get a win on PPV as it happens seldom for both men.
