10 Things You Probably Never Knew About WrestleMania III

2. Who Would Win Hogan vs Andre

As legend would have it, the decision on who would win the Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant main event was not decided until the last hours before the match went on. Hogan at various times over the years has spoken about the decision as he always says he was pushing Vince McMahon for an answer to a finish.

“I didn’t expect Vince to make up his mind until the eleventh hour. Finally, at almost twelve o’clock the night before Wrestlemania, Vince came to me and said, ‘I want you to win the match.’ The only problem was, he hadn’t discussed it yet with André. If [André] had said, ‘I won’t let Hogan win,’ I wouldn’t have won. That’s all there was to it.”

It seemed logical that Hogan would win the match knowing that he was the face of the company then and moving forward, but the thought of Andre losing and ending his undefeated streak (even though he had really lost before) was something that many felt wouldn’t happen.

In the end Hogan won with a thunderous body slam and legdrop, and most of the rabid crowd went home happy.
