Youngstown State Penguins advance to FCS National Championship game

Northeast Ohio will have a college football program playing for a national championship. In just his second season, Bo Pelini has guided his hometown Youngstown State Penguins to the Football Championship Series national championship game.

The Penguins upset the number two ranked Eastern Washington Eagles 40-38 on the red turf at Roos Field in Cheney, Washington.

Youngstown State won the game on a miraculous five yard touchdown catch by Kevin Rader. Quarterback Hunter Wells found just enough of a window for Rader to catch the football on the back of the Eagles defender.

The officials ruled the play as a touchdown. The ruling on the field stood following an official review. The Penguins head back to the national championship game for the first time in ten years.

The Penguins will face James Madison in the national championship game on January 7 in Frisco, Texas. James Madison upset the reigning national champion North Dakota State Bison 27-17.
