WRESTLEMANIA TOP FIVE: Face vs Face Matches

WRESTLEMANIA XXV The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels

For my money, this was the greatest match in professional wrestling history.  The two were already clearly established as the two greatest performers in WrestleMania history.  They were also towards the tail end of their careers and in many ways, carried the final memories of the WWE Attitude Era with them.

This was not the first time that they fought on PPV, but it was their first WrestleMania match against each other and both men were set to dance on the greatest stage of them all.  Shawn Michaels represented a holy presence while The Undertaker forever reigned from the Dark Side.  It was everything a WrestleMania big match should be.

Each man had a memorable entrance as The Undertaker rose from the depths of hell while Shawn Michaels dropped down from Heaven.  The eerie music, the smoke and screens, it had everything.  Then they went out on put on a mat classic.  I cannot stress this enough the thought of Undertaker losing at a WrestleMania was unheard of at the time, but Michaels made you believe it was going to happen.

In the end, the massive crowd at Houston’s Reliant Stadium witnessed the most memorable match in history.  The Undertaker won, but it would be the closest anyone ever came to defeating him at WrestleMania until the eventual defeat to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX.
