In a mania that is widely regarded as the greatest ever, this main event between the two most popular wrestlers of all time ended in shocking fashion as Stone Cold Steve Austin turned heel. Austin took help from his arch rival Vince McMahon to get the job done.
Once again this was a large dome crowd that popped hard for every big moment. This match had plenty of them as Austin bloodied The Rock and placed him in a sharpshooter, creating an image eerily similar to the one he had with Bret Hart a few years earlier.
Stone Cold Steve Austin was so popular that the thought of him turning heel was un-heard of. On top of the pure drama of this match, it cannot be lost at how great the in-ring action was as well. This was easily the best match in both men’s careers. They would fight again at WrestleMania XVIIII, but The Rock was technically a heel at the time.
