Westlake Varsity Bowling finishes 2nd place at Eagle Challenge/SWC Preview

For the 2nd time in the same week the Westlake Demons Girls Bowling Team returned from a tournament with hardware, finishing in 2nd place in the Eagle Challenge at Buckeye Lanes in North Olmsted. This tournament is one of the largest high school tournaments in Ohio, boasting 20 girls teams this year from around the state.

In the group format, the Demons finished as the 1st seed, setting another new school record of 3295 total combined pins – 153 pins ahead of Conference rivals Berea-Midpark and 165 pins ahead of a strong Austintown-Fitch team. The Demons were led by Senior Peyton Hedges (514), Sophomore Taylor Hedges (499), Seniors Charlotte Button (453) and Eve Anitas (411), and Junior Jenny Wisniewski (401).

In the six (6) Baker games, the Demons were led by Wisniewski who posted an amazing 12 frames without an open, leading the Demons to post the top scoring series of 1017, including a 236 in game #4.

In the bracket playoffs, the Demons squeaked by 8th seed North Olmsted (266 – 257) and handily defeated the 4th seed Girard team (405 – 276) to get to the title match against the 2017 Champion team from Hubbard (7th seed).

In the first Baker game, both teams struggled to a 146-146 tie, but in the second game, the Hubbard team pulled away with several back-to-back strikes, besting the Demons 196-156 for the title.

Individual tournament team honors were awarded to Peyton Hedges (6th place), her second such honor this week, and her sister, Taylor, missed 8th place honors by only 2 pins. Finally, a big thanks go out to JV bowlers Rema Alsabony, Gabrielle Hansen, and Gabi Atanaskovic who supported the team and were kept out of play by solid performances by all the varsity players.
