Tom Reed Announces He’s Leaving the Plain Dealer to Head Back to the Dispatch in Columbus

If you ever dreamed of being a beat writer covering the Cleveland Browns, now could be your chance. The Cleveland Plain Dealer and cleveland.com is losing one its Browns beat writers.

Wednesday afternoon, Tom Reed announced via his twitter account that he is leaving the Plain Dealer and cleveland.com and returning to the Columbus Dispatch. Reed spent five years as a Browns beat writer for cleveland.com and the Plain Dealer. Reed also covered the Cavaliers during his five years with the Plain Dealer and cleveland.com.

According to a tweet, Reed, who still resides in Columbus, will cover a variety of topics including the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets for the Dispatch. Reed also tweeted out that he hopes the Cleveland sports title drought ends in the next two weeks.

Reed will begin his new job at the Colmbus Dispatch on June 20. Reed’s departure leaves Mary Kay Cabot as the main Browns beat writer for the Plain Dealer and cleveland.com.

Scott Piker has spent over 15 years in the Cleveland media covering news and sports with experience in radio, television, print and digital media. He has covered everything from high school, college, Indians, Browns, Cavaliers and Buckeyes. Scott spent five years as the sports producer at WEWS NewsChannel 5, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland and also has his sports work featured on examiner.com. Scott has also received an emmy award in television news. Scott was born and raised and still resides in his hometown of Madison, Ohio.
