Tim Alexander Memorial Tournament: Rocky River Defeats Solon 5-1

It was two of the tournaments better teams colliding as Solon battled with host school Rocky River.  Both teams came in with wins under their belt and hungry for more.  It was a tight first period that remained scoreless until the final two minutes of the frame.  River managed to get it by Solon goaltender Michael Nagy twice to lead 2-0 after one period of action.

The Comets allowed a goal while on the power play which is always a back breaker.  Then moments later, allowed another goal shorthanded. The Comets managed a brief comeback at the start of the second period by scoring on a William Furlong goal, but couldn’t muster up much more than that.

River was playing ultra-physical and it appeared to throw the Comets off.  The Pirates tacked on two more goals by Teddy Stueber and Spencer Asmar to increase their lead to 4-1 after two periods.

The physical play for Rocky River increased in the third period, and so did their lead.  Hard hits, and very physical play led to a 5-1 lead with only five minutes to play.  Solon couldn’t take advantage of the several power play chances caused by the physical play of River.  Solon finished 0 for 6 on the power play.
