Three Takeaways From The Indians’ 4-1 Easter Sunday Loss To Detroit

The Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers concluded their three-game series on this Easter Sunday. Before the Indians head out for a seven-game road trip, there was nothing else on their minds besides finishing out this series strong. However, today that didn’t happen as the Indians lost their second straight series at home. Today’s final score was 4-1, dropping the team’s record to 4-6.

Here are the three takeaways from today’s 4-1 loss.

1. Cookie Didn’t Crumble– Carlos Carrasco took the mound for the Indians as he had a solid outing against Detroit today. Last year against Detroit he posted a 2-0 record in four starts with a 0.51 ERA. This afternoon, Carlos pitched 6 2/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out five. That dropped his record to 1-1 on the season. The two runs came in the top of the second inning when catcher Alex Avila launched a 416-foot two-run homer to right center, putting Detroit up 2-0.

2. Boyd Was Better– Matthew Boyd pitched for the Tigers and he was dealing for the most part in his outing today. The only inning the Indians got to him was in the sixth inning, as he gave up a run when Jose Ramirez hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Michael Brantley. Brantley got in scoring position thanks to a double steal with one out earlier in Ramirez’ at-bat.  He finished the game pitching six innings, giving up seven hits for one run while striking out three.

3. Lacking Run Support–  On the offensive end, it wasn’t a good day for Indians hitting. Though recorded seven eight, only one run came across. But what hurt the most was leaving six men on base. Leaving runners in scoring position remains to be a problem for the Indians, as they went 0-6 today with RISP.
