The Legacy of “The Icon” Sting – Three Things About Him We’ll Never Forget

After suffering a neck injury at Night of Champions last year, WWE Superstar Sting has decided to retire from professional wrestling.

“The Icon” is known more for his time with the rival brand World Championship Wrestling, where he was one of the main faces for a long time. There’s so many moments that stand out in the storied career of Sting.

These are just a few of my favorite Sting moments that stand out right away.

1. His Battles With Ric Flair: Everytime “The Icon” and “The Nature Boy” squared off in the ring, it was wrestling gold. They had great in-ring chemistry and could easily make a mid-card match deserving of the main event slot. Flair was the perfect heel to elevate Sting to the next level and it worked to perfection. It was only fitting that WCW’s last match was one more match between Sting and Ric Flair.

2. Taking Down The nWo: By far one of the most exciting storylines World Championship Wrestling had, it was always interesting to see how Sting would try to take out the Hogan-led nWo. A heel Hogan was always fun to watch and the hatred for him and the nWo helped make Sting even more popular.

3. His WWE Debut At Survivor Series 2014: Sting made a huge impact in his debut, hitting a Scorpion Death Drop on Triple H and pulling Dolph Ziggler on top of Seth Rollins to help Team Cena defeat Team Authority and remove The Authority from power. This set up a intriguing storyline between “The Stinger” and “The Game” that led to a match at Wrestlemania 31. Even though Sting lost, the match was fantastic. Sting in a WWE ring was something fans had hoped would happen for a long time and this moment was truly special.

The question “What if Sting never got injured?” will always be in the back of every wrestling fan’s mind. His time in WWE wasn’t very long, but he made an impact right away. This April, Sting will finally be put into the WWE Hall of Fame where he belongs. After accomplishing many things in his wrestling career, “The Icon’s” last accomplishment is the biggest one of them all.
