ROCKY RIVER, Ohio- It was a gorgeous night for football and Rocky River fans finally got a chance to see this year’s version of Pirate football and they were not disappointed. The Pirates, led by the one-two punch of Jr. RB Dameon Crawford,  8 carries 124 yards, 3TD’s and Jr. RB Matthew Popovich, ran early and often and rolled to a 65-0 thrashing of the Trinity Trojans in a non-conference game for both schools.

Prior to the game River Head Coach Josh Wells had this to say: “Last week was a reality check, the team was upset at their performance and they are glad to be home and get back at it”. And that they did. Trinity took the opening kickoff and went 3 and out, and 5 plays later Crawford scored the first of his 3 touchdowns on the night on a 43 yard run to give the Pirates a 7-0 lead. Later on in the first Crawford scored again, this time on a 63 yard run with :46.8 seconds left in the 1st. Sr Joshua Ranc picked up a fumble right before the end of the quarter to make it 20-0 after 1 quarter.

The start of the second quarter was much of the same for the Pirates, a 28 yard field goal by Jr. Michael Konrad, another 10 yard touchdown run by Crawford, and a 20 yard TD pass to Jr. WR Antoino Atwater pushed the lead to 37-0 at the half. The Trojans were stymied by the River defense all half amassing 46 yards of total offense in the first 24 minutes. Nothing would go right for the Trojans, who came into the game with a 1-1 record and were totally dominated by the fast, tough Rocky River defense.

The second half was the Matthew Popovich show as he amassed 121 yards rushing in 12 carries and 1 TD. A combination of strength and speed was too much for Trinity to overcome. Sr. Michael Holian also contributed with an amazing 65 yard td run, and So. Lardarrius Denham closed out the scoring with a fabulous 45 yard td in the game’s last minute.

“We always want to establish the running game and our offensive line was huge tonight” said Coach Wells after the game, “It was a huge bounce back win for us, Dameon was real good tonight.” Rocky River moves to 2-1 and hosts University School next Friday night at 7:00pm, Trinity falls to 1-2 will play Gilmour Academy next Saturday night at Bedford High School.
