PREVIEW: Cavs seek redemption against Warriors Monday night

1.Transition Game

On Christmas, Golden State expertly played the transition game. Over the years, their 3-point shooting has been lauded, but their ability to essentially run teams off the court makes them just as, if not more so, lethal.

The Cavs managed just nine fast break points last month while the Warriors ran the court for 33, or one-third of their total points. On Monday night, the Cavs need to do better in both their transition defense and offense to stop the game from becoming lopsided quickly.

Hopefully with three days off since his last game, Isaiah Thomas will be able to help the Cavs push the pace. Thomas did not play on Christmas Day as he continued to rehab his hip injury, while Golden State’s Steph Curry was also out with a sprained ankle. With Curry in the lineup, the Warriors will likely look to push even more in transition.

But ultimately, the Cavaliers will need to do better on both sides of the ball in transition to help their overall game.

“I think the main thing with this team is if we get stops, nobody can stop us offensively because we get out and run, and it’s hard to stop,” Thomas said after practice on Sunday.
