Preview: Browns Look to Keep Playoff Hopes Alive in Saturday Showdown in Denver

2. Protect Baker

The Browns offense needs to get out of the huddle and keep the Broncos on their toes if they want to keep moving in tonight’s matchup.

Denver has two elite pass rushers, and they are led by linebackers Von Miller (13.5 sacks) and Bradley Chubb (12) and holds opponents to 21.7 points per game (ninth in the NFL).

While it would be nice to get a lead and play from ahead, maybe the bigger concern is to make sure to keep Baker upright, and not allow those pass rushers to get in the backfield and make it a long night.

It will be up to guys like Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson to be good in blitz pickup, and Mayfield has to be able to do what he’s done already in 2018, which is be good rolling and throwing out of the pocket.

Mayfield has posted a 114.5 passer rating since Gregg Williams took over for Hue Jackson, this compared to 78.9 over the season’s first eight games. He needs to play well tonight to win, and can’t do that on his back.
