Mayfield wins rookie of the month

The Browns announced in a press release this morning that Baker Mayfield has been named NFL Offensive Rookie for the month of November.

The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft has really taken off in the month of November, leading the team to a 2-1 record. He not only has the Browns winning but he’s putting up some very impressive numbers as well. Over the last three games Mayfield is completing 73% of his passes, thrown for 771 yards, with nine touchdowns and only one interception.

Along with those numbers he also became the first rookie in NFL history to have a passer rating of 140+ in back-to-back games and a game with 150+ passer rating. If that wasn’t impressive enough, Dan Murphy of the Cleveland Browns shared this nugget via twitter.

All of those stats are great but what’s most important is the Browns are winning again. Mayfield led them to their first road victory Sunday against the Bengals since Oct. 11, 2015. That broke a streak of 25 consecutive road loses and even better, he has led them to consecutive victories for the first time since 2014.

Oh, and if beating your in state rival to get back-to-back wins on the road isn’t good enough, Mayfield also set a Browns rookie record with four touchdown passes against the Bengals.

The accomplishments keep rolling in for Mayfield and that’s a good sign for Cleveland Browns fans. He’s been named NFL Pepsi Rookie of the week three times and is a finalist for this week as well. He’s also only the third Brown to win Offensive Rookie of the Month, joining Tim Couch (Oct. 1999) and Joe Thomas (Nov. 2007).

It appears times are finally changing in Cleveland for the long plagued Browns.
