Madison Blue Streaks Record 20th Win; Advance to Sectional Final

MADISON, Ohio – The Madison Blue Streaks won their 20th game on Thursday night, making 2016-17 the first season in over 30 years in which the school has recorded 20 or more wins.

The number five seeded Blue Streaks advance in the Division I boys basketball playoffs Euclid district with a 69-55 victory over their Western Reserve Conference rival Chardon Hilltoppers, the number eight seed.

Madison will face the third seeded Cleveland Heights Tigers in the second round of the Euclid district. Cleveland Heights will host Madison on Saturday, March 4 at 7 p.m.

The Blue Streaks took a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

The Hilltoppers got as close as five points with 2:47 remaining in the third quarter at 42-37.

Madison would finish the quarter on an 10-3 run to get their double digit lead back at 52-40.

The Blue Streaks outscored the Hilltoppers 17-15 in the final quarter to give the fans of the Blue and White in attendance at “The Mad House” a chance to celebrate the historic victory in program history.

The victory came exactly five years to the day since the Blue Streaks and Hilltoppers had another memorable playoff matchup.

Madison and Chardon faced off in the first round of the Euclid District in 2012. The game was the first school sporting event following the tragic school shooting at Chardon High School on February 27, 2012. Three students lost their lives on that day.

The Hilltoppers won that night at Euclid High School. The Blue Streaks showed their support for their conference rivals by wearing special tribute shirts during pregame warmups.

Does anyone remember the ’68 roundballers record? I know they won most of their games. D. Crane, J. Lintern, H. Prince, M. Jackson, M. Nixon. Great team players!!
