Lorain Holds Off Cleveland Heights, 69-67

It was a battle for first place in the Lake Erie League and the game did not disappoint, as the Lorain Titans held off Cleveland Heights, 69-67.

Lorain closed out the game on a 13-3 run, after being down by nine with just over five minutes to play.

Senior guard Jalil Little came through in the clutch, scoring seven of his game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter.

Lorain came out of the gate strong, knocking down 5-of-6 three point attempts in the first quarter, but Cleveland Heights kept pace with the Titans, as the two sides were tied at 36 at halftime.

The Tigers were in control for most of the second half, going on an 11-0 run in the third quarter to lead, 49-44 with 3:28 left in the period.

Cleveland Heights’ run was capped off by a monster dunk from Tyreke Smith, sending the crowd at Warrensville Heights High School into a frenzy.

Smith led the Tigers with 22 points.

The Titans hold a one-game lead on Maple Heights for first place in the LEL, while Cleveland Heights is now two games back.

The Tigers (9-5, 3-2) are back on the court Saturday, Jan. 28 at 6 pm, hosting Huber Heights Wayne.

The Titans (12-2, 5-0) host Shaw on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Lorain’s showdown against Maple Heights (12-2, 4-1) will take place on Feb. 3 on the road.
