LeBron James named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for March

CLEVELAND – The awards keep coming in for Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James for the amazing month of March he had. Monday, James was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the third time in March. Tuesday afternoon, the NBA announced that James has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for March.

It’s the second straight month that LeBron has been selected as the Eastern Conference Player of the Month. James continues to set franchise and NBA records for Eastern Conference Player of the Month awards. March marks the 19th time LeBron has won the award as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers and the 31st time in his Hall of Fame to be career.

James appeared in 14 games in March and averaged 25.6 points on .538 shooting from the field, 8.2 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 34.1 minutes per game. James lead the Cavaliers to a 10-4 record last month and a second straight Central Division title. The 12-time NBA All-Star registered seven double-doubles, including two triple-double performances in wins over Denver on March 21 (33 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists) and New York on March 26 (27 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists).

James also past Hall of Fame players John Havlicek, Dominique Wilkens and Oscar Robertson on the NBA’s all time scoring list. James also continues to move up the career leader board in made field goals and assists.

In 73 starts this season, James is averaging 25.2 points (sixth in NBA) on .512 shooting from the field, 7.5 rebounds, 6.8 assists (ninth in NBA) and 1.4 steals in 35.7 minutes per game. The Cavaliers are currently leading the Eastern Conference by three and a half games over the Toronto Raptors. Cleveland’s magic number to clinch the best record in the Eastern Conference is three. The number can drop to one if the Cavaliers defeat the Milwaukee Bucks tonight in Milwaukee and the Raptors lose to the Charlotte Hornets.

James is tied with Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook of the Oklahoma City Thunder with two conference player of the month awards this season. Westbrook was named the Western Conference Player of the Month on Tuesday.
