Avon Lake put the breaks on the two-year regular season winning streak of cross-town rival Avon this past Friday night. They did it in front of a packed house in dramatic comeback fashion.
Ahead 17-7 as they entered the fourth quarter, the Shoremen appeared to have everything in control when all of a sudden of 21-7 scoring spree by Avon, saw the Shoremen now trailing 28-24 with only 2 minutes to go.
It was then that Jack Mikolich and the Shoremen had their finest moment with a dramatic and stunning two-minute drive to win the game. Mikolich capped off the drive with a one-yard rumble into the endzone that sent the fans into a frenzy.
When it was all said and done, Mikolich passed for 215 yards and three touchdowns, along with the one rushing touchdown. The fans all over the state recognized his efforts by voting him this week’s Jenny’s Old-Fashioned Popcorn Player of the Week!
