Indians Top Prospect Bradley Zimmer called up from Triple-A, More Roster Moves

The Cleveland Indians announced some roster moves on Tuesday afternoon via press release:

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the 2017 Major League roster:

 

Recalled RHP SHAWN ARMSTRONG (#51) from AAA Columbus.

 

Purchased the contract of OF BRADLEY ZIMMER (#4) from AAA Columbus.

 

Placed OF ABRAHAM ALMONTE (right biceps strain) on the 10-day Disabled List.

 

Optioned INF/OF YANDY DÍAZ to AAA Columbus.

 

Designated RHP CARLOS FRÍAS for assignment.

 

Armstrong begins his third stint with Cleveland in 2017, posting an ERA of 5.63 (5ER/8.0IP) over 5 relief outings to date with Cleveland. Around his tenure at the Major League level, he has recorded an ERA of 2.89 with 4 saves in 8 relief appearances with AAA Columbus (9.1IP, 4H, 3R/ER, 4BB, 16SO). He has limited International League hitters to a .125 (4-32) average against and fanned 15.4 batters per 9.0IP.

 

Zimmer, 24, has spent the entire season to date with the Clippers, batting .294 (37-126) with 22 runs scored, 9 steals, 11 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 14 RBI  in 33 games (.371/.532/.902).  He has hit safely in his past 8 games since May 7, batting .419 (13-for-31) with 2 homers, 5 RBI and 7 runs over the span. The La Jolla, CA native currently leads the Cleveland organization with 22 runs scored and 18 extra base hits and ranks T-2nd in the International League with 18 extra base hits, 5th in both steals (9) and total bases (67), 6th in slugging pct. (.532) and 10th in OPS (.902).  Zimmer was Cleveland’s first-round pick (21st overall) in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of San Francisco and is making his debut at the Major League level.  With Columbus this season, he is batting .323 (10-31, .970 OPS) against left-handed pitching.
