Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Trevor Bauer is heading for the 10-day DL, this after manager Terry Francona said Tuesday he’s got a “small stress fracture” in his right fibula.
The incident which caused the injury came in the 7th inning of his last start against the White Sox Saturday in Chicago when a batted ball from José Abreu hit off his leg.
At first Francona said it appeared to be a bruise, but now the team says it’s a small fracture.
Bauer is 12-6 with a 2.22 ERA (166.0IP, 125H, 49R, 41ER, 8HR, 56BB) in 25 starts, while recording a career-high 214 strikeouts.
He currently leads the American League in innings pitched (166.0), home ERA (1.87), games started (T1st) and quality starts (20), while ranking 2nd in strikeouts, 3rd in ERA (2.22), 4th in strikeouts-per-9.0IP (11.6) and 5th in opponent batting average (.205).
For now Adam Plutko will throw in his place Saturday against the Orioles and Tyler Olson is also being called up for another arm in the pen.
