Indians Place McAllister on DL, Send Down Clevinger, Call Up Adams and Colon

The Indians today made a couple more moves with their bullpen as they get set for a four-game set at Progressive Field against the New York Yankees before getting off a few days for the All-Star break.

The team placed pitcher Zach McAllister on the 15-day DL with right hip discomfort, and also send down pitcher Mike Clevinger back to AAA Columbus.

With two open spots comes two more pitchers, as the team called up pitchers Austin Adams and Joe Colon, both of whom were with the Clippers down in Columbus.

Adams has spent most of the season on the Columbus roster, going 2-3 with 6 saves and a 4.18 ERA in 24 relief appearances (28.0IP, 31H, 14R/13ER, 8BB, 28SO). He has limited left-handed Triple-A hitters to a .224 (11-49, 3 2B) average against for the year.

He was previously with Cleveland from May 22-June 6, posting an ERA of 2.35 in 7 outings (7.2IP, 6H, 2R/ER, 3BB, 12SO, 207 avg., 14.1 SO per 9.0IP).

Colon has posted an ERA of 0.59 in 13 relief appearances for the Clippers this season (15.1IP, 4H, 3R/1ER, 8BB, 14SO, .083 avg). He was suspended the first 50 games of the season for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program (drug of abuse) and did not make his first appearance until May 31st.

He is making his debut at the Major League level in his 8th professional season after being selected by Cleveland in the 12th round of the 2009 draft.

This season McAllister is 2-2 with 5.40 ERA. He got a spot start on Saturday against the Blue Jays after the team played 19 innings on Friday in Toronto.
