Indians Officially Announce Signing of 1B Yonder Alonso; Antonetti Says Big Deals Likely Done

Today the Indians made it official, that is the signing that first hit Twitter on Wednesday night, the team inking All-Star first basemen Yonder Alonso, who comes to the team basically to take the spot left open by Carlos Santana who inked with the Phillies earlier this week.

The two-year deal with Alonso is reported to be for $16 million for the two seasons with a vesting option for a third season for $8 million.

Now with Alonso aboard, many Indians fans are saying ‘what’s next,’ but from what President Chris Antonetti said today, it sounds like most of the Indians big offseason moves are already over.

It’s news that is not going to make Tribe fans happy, as some are still mad the team picked up the team option for outfielder Michael Brantley, and others have been hopeful the team would try to make a deal of some sort to get Orioles power slugging third basemen Manny Machado, even after it came out that it appears that he would be staying put.

So for now, it’s Alonso, who last season played in 142 games last season with the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners.

He hit .266 with 22 doubles, 28 homers, drove in 67 runs, drew 68 walks, struck out 118 times, and was a member of the American League All-Star team.

It might not be the news overall that Indians fans wanted for Christmas, but for now, it appears to be the only gifts under the tree fans are getting.
