Indians Catcher Gomes Hit in Hand with Pitch During Rehab Assignment with AA Akron

The Indians were expected to have catcher Yan Gomes back this weekend when they play a critical three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.

Now it appears the catcher has yet another injury to get back to the big league club.

Wednesday night Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com tweeted that Gomes, playing for AA Akron during a playoff game, was hit in the right hand with a pitch.

As the tweet says it sounds like the team is going to get info on the injury and for now it’s unknown if the injury is severe enough to keep him from returning back with the Tribe on Friday, when it looked as if he would be behind the plate catching Indians ace Corey Kluber.
