Indians Call Up Top Prospect Francisco Mejia From Triple-A Columbus

The Cleveland Indians have called up top prospect Francisco Mejia from Triple-A Columbus, the team announced on Monday. Mejia spent some time last year with the Tribe, as he was a September call-up along with outfielder Greg Allen.

Mejia played fifty games with Columbus, batting just .214. However, he has nine doubles, four home runs, and 25 runs batted in. The 22-year old has struck out 45 times as opposed to 14 walks.

The move was made because of a potential injury that could hold catcher Roberto Perez out of action for quite some time. He hasn’t been placed on the disabled list as of yet.

Reliever Evan Marshall was sent down and reliever Matt Belisle was released by Cleveland.
