Indians Add Minor League Catching Prospect Francisco Mejia to 40-Man Roster

Shortly after the Cleveland Indians outrighted catcher Chris Giminez, the team announced its decision to add 21-year-old catching prospect Francisco Mejia to the 40-man roster.

Although it’s highly unlikely Mejia sees the Majors in 2017, should an unexpected scenario arise, like injuries to Yan Gomes and/or Roberto Perez he would be eligible to move up from the Minors.

Mejia played 60 games at Lake County and 42 games at Lynchburg.

He hit .342 on the season with 11 homers and 80 rbi, also racking up a 50-game hit-streak in the process.
