Former 92.3 The Fan On-Air Talent Sentenced to Jail Time for Charity Scam

A former Cleveland radio personality had his day in court today, and probably wasn’t all that thrilled with the outcome, as he’ll be spending the next 30 months in jail.

J.G. (Joseph) Spooner was sentenced in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas court by Judge Brian Corrigan for profiting from a fundraiser intended for a woman with cystic fibrosis whom he knew from high school.

Spooner had already plead guilty to money laundering and theft charges. He was also ordered to pay pay $16,000 in restitution.

The docs in court claim that Spooner stole more than $7,300 from a GoFundMe account set up for a woman with cystic fibrosis.

His claim was he would use his status on air at 92.3 The Fan to promote the fundraiser. In the end, he pocketed the money, despite him blaming GoFundMe for the issues.

Spooner was involved in another scam, this time involving taking rent payments from seven people for a house in Cleveland he didn’t own.

Let’s hope maybe in prison he finds a shirt.
