Closing the Book on 2015-16; Writing the Next Chapter

Like any great epic novel, it’s time for a new chapter in the story of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

2015-16 was its own amazing tale of heroics and overcoming adversity, but now the Cavs are the hunted in 2016-17.

Golden State’s addition of Kevin Durant – like a mercenary sent from a foreign land to bolster the enemy’s troops for its next battle – will only make Cleveland’s accomplishment even more meaningful if the Cavaliers defend their title.

It took the franchise 46 years to win its first championship and now it’s practically a failure if they don’t repeat.

It’s hard to imagine there will be any more twists and turns than last year.

Tyronn Lue has the full support of his team. Kevin Love survived trade rumors.

Kyrie Irving firmly cemented himself as a superstar.

All of this would tend to lean towards the idea that this team is comfortable and ready for their next major test.

However, every NBA season has its own surprises that come along the way over the course of 82 games.

Once the banner is raised and the rings are unveiled, the door closes on 2015-16.

Fans and analysts can look back, but this team has its eyes set straight ahead on the task at hand.

All of us can predict and prognosticate, but the games have to be played regardless.

What new challenges and what new stars will arise in 2016-17?

None of us know, but let’s enjoy this ride, which does not appear like it will be as much of a roller coaster – for now.
