Cleveland is one of 13 metropolitan areas serving as a host city during the 14th edition of the Gold Cup. The 2017 Gold Cup features four first-time hosts, including Cleveland, as well as nine returning venues.

For this year’s tournament, CONCACAF has taken steps to expand to emerging soccer markets, allowing more fans across the country to take part in the continental championship firsthand.

In June, FirstEnergy Stadium held a rematch of the 2015 Women’s World Cup final as the U.S. Women’s National Team claimed a 2-0 victory against Japan in the second leg of a two-game friendly between the teams. With 23,535 fans in attendance, it marked the largest crowd ever to watch a WNT game in Ohio.

FirstEnergy Stadium most recently hosted the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2013 for a game against Belgium, the first international soccer game at the stadium since 2006.

Taking place every two years, the CONCACAF Gold Cup is the official national team championship of the region, which includes North America, Central America and the Caribbean. Drawing large, passionate crowds and millions of television viewers across the region, the Gold Cup is a celebration of soccer, sportsmanship, and culture.

In 2015, the Browns, with the City of Cleveland and Mayor Jackson’s support, completed a two-year modernization project of FirstEnergy Stadium that began in 2013 to provide the team and its fans a top-tier NFL facility. More information about FirstEnergy Stadium is available on pages 420-422 of the 2016 Cleveland Browns Media Guide.
