Charge fall to Bulls via buzzer-beater

Tonight , the Canton Charge were in Chicago for a match-up against the Windy City Bulls (Chicago Bulls affiliate) inside The Sears Centre.

The Charge fought their way to a three point lead after one quarter of play, led by strong offensive performances from Chris Evans and Quinn Cook. Evans turned in seven points down the stretch of the first quarter, helping the Charge hold off a 7-0 Bulls run. After one, the Charge led by a narrow margin (25-22).

Evans and Cook continued to pressure the Bulls defense in the second quarter. However, the Bulls weren’t giving up. It seemed the Charge had a battle on their hands. After two quarters of play, the Charge were still out in front (49-42), led by Evans’ 11 points and five rebounds.

After the break, the war raged on. Cook and Evans both turned in 19 points through the first three quarters. Eric Moreland maintained a strong presence in the paint for the Charge, turning in nine points and 11 rebounds as the two teams prepared for the final quarter. After three, the Charge were holding on to a 73-71 lead.

Despite a valiant effort throughout the entire game, the Charge fell to a buzzer-beater in the final quarter. When the smoke cleared inside the arena, the Charge were defeated (96-94).

Cook led all Charge scorers in Friday night’s loss, racking up 30 points (12-24 from the field) and four rebounds in 41 minutes. Evans turned in 21 points and seven rebounds in his 38 minutes of playing time. Moreland played his way to a double-double performance, tallying 11 points and 13 rebounds in 31 minutes.

The Charge (4-7) will be back in action tomorrow night (Saturday) when they host the Erie BayHawks (Orlando Magic affiliate) inside Canton Memorial Civic Center at 7:00 pm EST.
