Causey Strikes Out Twelve; Olmsted Falls Defeats Avon 6-2

Avon – The Olmsted Falls Bulldogs beat the Avon Eagles 6-2 on a very cold day.

In the second inning, Sully Kilbane hit a ball down the first base line to lead off the inning for the Bulldogs.

Kilbane hustled around the bases but got thrown out at third.

The score didn’t stay tied for long though.

Bret Asadorian reached base on a fielders choice in the third inning.

Avon threw to second to try to pick off Asadorian but the ball was thrown into center field.

Asadorian scored from second on the play to give Olmsted Falls the early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, Jackson Myer attempted to bunt home a run from third by trying a safety squeeze.

The bunt went right back to Pitcher Nate Causey who threw home to record the out.

Later in the inning, Nate Brooks scored on an RBI double from Josh Ratty to tie the game at one run.

It didn’t take long for Olmsted Falls to regain the lead, in the fourth inning Sully Kilbane reached base on a single.

A passed ball got Kilbane to second and Jared Feskanich brought him home on an RBI single.

The Bulldogs extended their lead in the fifth inning.

Bret Asadorian led off the inning with a double that went off the top of the left-field wall followed by a walk to Teddy Grendzynski.

After both runners move up 90 feet because of a wild pitch, Jack Spellacy brought home Asadorian on a single, Spellacy advanced to second on the throw.

Sully Kilbane brought home Grendzynski with a single but the Bulldogs stranded runners on second and third.

In a 4-1 hole, Avon needed to respond.

Josh Rattay singled with one out in the sixth and stole second.

After two errors, Rattay scored to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Bulldogs pulled away late.

Jack Spellacy led off the seventh inning with a double for Olmsted Falls followed by a single from Sully Kilbane.

Kilbane went 4-for-4 for Olmsted Falls with a double and an RBI.

Nate Causey brought in a run with a double followed by an RBI single from Brian Eisman to put the game out of reach at 6-2.

Cooper Docherty took the loss for Avon, he went 4.1 innings and gave up 4 runs on 7 hits.

Nate Causey earned the win for Olmsted Falls, he went all 7 innings and gave up 1 earned run on 4 hits.

“Like I say every time, Nate’s our number one for a reason,” Olmsted Falls Coach Todd Urban said following the win.

“He’s a battler, a warrior. Terrible conditions to pitch in and he did very well against a very good team.”

Olmsted Falls will host Westlake tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.
