Carrasco Returns to Detroit, Two Months After Scary Injury

Carlos Carrasco (2-2, 3.26) is back at Comerica Park to start against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

Carrasco’s last time in Detroit on April 24 was not a pleasant one, as he exited the game in the third inning, injuring his hamstring while covering first base.

It took Carrasco over a month to return to MLB action, as he took the mound on June 2 and pitched five solid innings against the Royals.

In the right-hander’s four starts since coming off the DL, he has allowed 11 earned runs over 25 innings (3.96 ERA) and has struck out 22 batters opposed to just seven walks.

His last three starts in particular have been impressive because of the distance. Carrasco has worked at least six innings in each of his last three starts.

He has received little run support of late, as the Indians scored only four total runs in the three games. He gave the team more than a decent chance to win in his last two starts, allowing only two runs in each game.

Anibal Sanchez (4-7, 5.97) takes the mound for the Tigers on Saturday. The Tribe has gotten the better of Sanchez in each of the two times they face him so far this season, as Sanchez has allowed 10 earned runs in 9.1 innings of work against Cleveland.

Sanchez moved to the bullpen in early June and this will be his first start since May 31, after making six relief appearances in the last three weeks.

We’ll see how he handles the right-handed heavy-hitting Tigers, who have yet to win a game against the Tribe in seven meetings this season.
