Candelario’s Walk-Off Blast Lifts Tigers Over Indians, 4-2; Three Takeaways From The Loss

DETROIT– Jeimer Candelario’s walk-off home run in the 12th inning lifted the Detroit Tigers over the Cleveland Indians by a final score of 4-2 on Saturday. The game was sent to extras when Rajai Davis went yard in the eighth inning to even the score late.

Here’s three takeaways from the loss.

1. Lack of hitting throughout lineup

Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor failed to record a hit on Saturday. He was not alone.

Cleveland’s offense sputtered across the finish line in a rough day at a plate. Seven hits in twelve innings is never a recipe for success. Add the fact they had plenty of chances to win the game late and this one stings a little.

2. Detroit’s bullpen holds their ground

Mike Fiers provided seven quality innings of work for the Tigers, embarking in a battle with Cleveland’s Mike Clevinger. While Clevinger battled strong on his end, Detroit’s bullpen held firm to let the Tigers walk it off.

Five relievers held the Indians’ offense in check for five innings, allowing just two hits. That’s an impressive showing by a Detroit bullpen that had a tall task in front of them in the form of the Tribe’s offense.

3. Hits all around for the Tigers offense

Unlike the Indians, Detroit’s offense had a field day. Though Candelario’s walk-off home run will be the highlight play, the entire Tigers offense deserves some credit.

Ten batters took to the dish and 10 hits were recorded. Only Dixon Machado failed to get a base hit, which is astounding and shows how strong of a day the team had.
