Browns Sign Former Packers Wide Receiver Jeff Janis

The Cleveland Browns added some depth at the wide receiver position on Friday, as NFL Network’s Peter Schrager reported on Friday that the team signed former Green Bay Packers wide-out Jeff Janis. Janis had spent his first four years in the league with Green Bay prior to inking a deal with Cleveland.

Janis, 26, played college ball at Saginaw Valley State and was drafted in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Packers. In four seasons, Janis has appeared in fifty-one games and has hauled in seventeen receptions for 200 yards. Though he isn’t a player that will be on the field on every offensive down, Janis provides a deep-ball target in three or four wide receiver sets.

Another thing Janis adds for Cleveland is a guy that can return kickoffs, as he has done so for the last three years in Green Bay. In twenty-three kick returns, Janis has accumulated 568 return yards. Janis could help make the special teams unit something to keep an eye on in a department that continues to see fewer teams invest into.
