Browns Select Quarterback Cody Kessler in 3rd Round; Quarterback of the Future?

Cleveland’s search for a quarterback is somewhat reminiscent of the attempt to find intelligent life on other planets. Or the search for Sasquatch, Yeti, things of that nature.

Once in a while we hear rumblings about possible evidence that there just might one day be a good one in the area, but all reports turn out to be false.

Next in line to try and break the chain of one horrible quarterback after another is Cody Kessler out of USC.

The Browns selected Kessler 93rd overall. He was the sixth quarterback selected in the draft, taken ahead of the likes of Connor Cook and Dak Prescott, who were both rated higher by most draft analysts going into Friday night.

It’s interesting that those two quarterbacks fell. The Browns aren’t the only ones who passed them up.

As for Kessler, there are some impressive numbers to note from his three years as a starter at USC. His completion percentage was over 65 percent in all three seasons, and in his senior year he threw for over 3,500 yards, completing 29 touchdown passes, opposed to just seven interceptions.

He’s 6’1″, 215 pounds, and will have first-round pick Corey Coleman to throw to down the road, if and when Kessler gets the opportunity to start in the NFL.

Kessler to Coleman has a nice ring to it.

We’ll see if Kessler’s fate is any different than his predecessors, but one thing is for sure, this new regime has taken a different approach than the ones we have seen before them.
