Brock Lesnar Talks of the Decision to Go Back to UFC

It’s official, Brock Lesnar is back (even for one night only) in UFC 200, and the former UFC Champion will fight Mark Hunt, the 8th ranked heavyweight on July 9th in Las Vegas.

The announcement was made on ESPN’s SportsCenter this morning, and Lesnar said having to leave UFC in 2011 after a serious bout with diverticulitis was one of the toughest of his life.

“I couldn’t live with that decision, it was a hard decision for me to make,” Lesnar said. It’s haunted me for the last 15 months, and I figured I couldn’t live like that the rest of my life.”

Lesnar was 4-3 in his UFC career, but continues to be one of the most polarizing figures in all of sports, both UFC and WWE.

“It’s billionaire business, so why the hell wouldn’t anyone want Brock Lesnar involved,” Lesnar said. “I’m a cross over athlete, I’m the modern day Bo Jackson.”

Hunt is 7-4-1 in his UFC career, and has knocked out each of his last two opponents.

Lesnar said on ESPN that he still feels he can get in the octagon and fight at a high level, and that he still has a bad taste about how things for him ended in UFC.

“It haunted me because at the top of my career I wasn’t at the top of my game,” Lesnar said “In my mind and in my heart I didn’t lose to a foe, I lost to diverticulitis.”

Lesnar said that he just started his training to get back into UFC shape for the fight in just over a month, but feels he’ll have enough time and training to get set to take on Hunt.

“My performance (at the end of his first UFC run) was due to my illness, this is for real, I am so excited, and I am glad for my decision,” Lesnar said.

So what’s next for Lesnar after UFC 200? He’s slated to go back to WWE for SummerSlam in August, a busy summer indeed for ‘The Beast.’

“I can’t talk about legacy, I’m always moving forward,” Lesnar said.
