Breaking Down the Smackdown Draft Class

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio – The WWE had their draft last night, and there were quite a few interesting things that came out of it. Smackdown had less picks overall, but seemed to make the most of the ones they had.

Let’s break down the Smackdown draft, as selected by commissioner Shane McMahon and GM Daniel Bryan.
Smackdown drafted

15 Singles Wrestlers
6 Women
5 Tag Teams

Of their 15 singles selections, 7 of them are former World Champions in John Cena, Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio and Kane. They also boast some young power in Apollo Crews. Baron Corbin and Mojo Rawley. They have the best high flyer in the company with Kalisto. They even have the Wyatt family with Bray and Erick Rowan.

This roster breathes opportunities for everyone on it. AJ Styles will get his chance to shine, even without the Bullet Club. I can easily see a feud between Baron Corbin and Kane with the Big Red Machine helping continue to get him over. Del Rio is pissed about being drafted so low, and will look to open up some eyes once again. It’s a great mix, and Tuesday nights should be exciting very soon.

They have 6 women on the roster, consisting of Becky Lynch, Nattie Neidhart, Naomi, Alexa Bliss, Eva Marie and Carmella. This may be the last chance for Naomi to save her career after several failed attempts. Nattie Neidhart is there to put on mat classics and help Becky Lynch get over. Eva Marie, Carmella and Alexa Bliss are there for eye candy. Not the strongest womens division by any stretch, but it does leave plenty of room for a Bailey call up later Summer early Fall.

The Ascension will also have a chance to save their career as they are part of a only a 5 team division on Smackdown. You can’t expect anything out of Breezango and American Alpha make time some time to get their feet wet on the main roster. However, Alpha is coming up with a lot of hype behind them. The USO’s will be solid as always.

Smackdown has unlimited potential and it will be very interesting to see what they do with it. I’d expect Cena to win at Battleground against Styles, to set up their third and final clash at Summerslam. Also, once Orton is done with Lesnar, I’d expect Styles next feud to be with Styles.
