Berea-Midpark Ends Season with 3-2 Loss at Avon Lake in OHSAA Sectional Final

The fifth-seeded Berea-Midpark boys’ soccer team fell, 3-2, in the second round of the 2017 OHSAA Sectional Final Saturday evening at Memorial Stadium in Avon Lake.

Seniors Joshua Ramirez and Carter Munsterman scored the goals for the Titans (8-6-4) in the second half, but Avon Lake hit the eventual game-winner midway in the final frame to advance the Shoremen to the District quarterfinals.

Avon Lake held a 2-0 lead at halftime. But like all year, the Titans never gave up. The boys found the net seven minutes into the second half when Ramirez headed in the goal following an excellent corner kick into the box by Andrew Ruggiero in the 47th minute.

However, Avon Lake struck again when the Shoremen scored past Dominic Baglier’s left hand from close range for the eventual game winning goal.

Munsterman struck a right footed shot into the upper right 90 of the net in the 78th minute of the game to draw the Titans within one, but Berea-Midpark ran out of time in search of the equalizer.
