Balanced Attack Helps Cornerstone Top Bedford 65-49

Three Cornerstone players scored in double digits and the Patriots improved to 9-3 by defeating the Bedford Bearcats 65-49.

The Patriots led throughout the whole game, though the Bearcats kept it close for three quarters. However, CCA opened things up by going on a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal the deal, as two three’s behind the arc highlighted the run.

One of the main stories in this game was Cornerstone creating second-chance point opportunities by grabbing their own rebounds.

“We were on a high level on rebounding on both ends on the floor, especially on offense.” Cornerstone Head Coach Andy Weybrecht said. ” (We) wanted to make sure we’re boxing out and limiting other team with one chance.”

Forward Brandon McQueen scored 23 points, along with going 6-6 at the free-throw line.

“I told my teammates we have to play with a chip on our shoulder. We knew that Bedford wasn’t going to go down easily.” McQueen said. ” (I) told my teammates we have to finish them and that’s what we did.”

Despite fouling out, Junior guard Michael Bothwell scored 12 points. After the game, Boswell talked about his trust in his teammates.

“I know I’m not going to score 20 or 30 points every game, just as long we get that ‘W’.” Bothwell said. “Yes, I got into foul troubles, but we just adjust to the refs on how they’re calling it and just move on.”

Tre Williams also added 11 points tonight in the victory.

Cornerstone will face Garaway on Saturday at home and Bedford will play Shaw on Friday.
