Tiger Woods Registers for US Open; For Real Or Just Smoke and Mirrors?

Tiger Woods has registered to play in the 2016 US Open…but it could be just a formality.

The last time Woods came back from an injury, it was too soon and he subsequently continued to injure himself.

So this could be history repeating itself, or it could be history in the making…DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK!

With all the scientific medical advancements in today’s world, Woods could be playing golf, and especially competing in majors, till he is in his 50’s and 60’s…as long as he does it the right way. What does that mean? He needs to be patient.

Yet, most think the best he could do is reach the all time wins record, which is currently held by Sam Snead at 82. Woods sits second at 79 right in front of Jack Nicklaus with 73.

The all-time major wins record is held by Jack at 18, with Tiger in second at 14. Woods, who is now 40 years of age, has not played since last August where he tied for 10th at the Wyndham Championship.

That 10th-place tie was his best finish of the worst season of his career on the PGA Tour. He has undergone two back surgeries in the span of six weeks, three in total since the injuries began.

His exempt status means he is free to play if he wants to, however, his registration is no guarantee that he will participate at Oakmont Country Club in June.

“Procedural” was the word his agent Mark Steinberg used when telling ESPN and Senior Golf Writer Bob Harig that Tiger had in fact registered for the 2016 U.S. Open.

Woods missed the cut at last year’s US Open at Chambers Bay where Jordan Spieth took home the victory thanks to a missed putt by Dustin Johnson on the 18th green.

Tiger also did not contend in this year’s Masters at Augusta National due to his strict recovery regiment from surgery on his back last September.

I know time is running out for all of us, but my humble opinion is to sit out this years U.S. Open and at least wait till the British Open or “The Open Championship” in July.

But, I would prefer him to wait till the U.S. PGA Championship, which is also in July (late July) and prime himself for a “serious” comeback in 2017.

He can still win! And that is what he intends to do, he wouldn’t be Tiger if he didn’t expect to win every time he stepped on the course.

However, the completion is fierce, and it only going to get better.

That’s Golf.
