13 Things We’ve Learned From the Browns This Season so Far

12.) Right AHOY!

I was surprised by how many people actually wanted to try and trade Joe Thomas and Alex Mack. Mack may leave after the season but there is no guarantee. Thomas has been a Pro Bowler every year. I wrote my article on why trading away either would be a mistake. I know Thomas may be losing a step and having some false starts but he’s not the one giving up all the pressures. I will give you one name that is. That guy is Mitchell Schwartz.

The Washington Post is the only site I’ve found for free so far that posts sacks allowed. No Browns lineman has allowed more than 3.5 sacks this season according to them except for one. Schwartz has allowed 9.5 sacks. That’s almost one a game. He has constantly been getting beat time and time again by these quicker pass rushers on the edge. Greco has done okay but nothing more than that. Schwartz should not be back next year as this is his contract year. If you eliminate Erving from playing left guard when filling in for Bitonio, watch the game and the pressures. You will see time and time again it’s the right side of the line getting blown up not the left.

13.) Theres Always Next Year

At 2-8 the Browns season is done and over and we can add another losing season to the list. The only thing the Browns are playing for right now is draft position. The saving grace from Farmer is that by signing all these released players and letting guys like Sheard, Cameron, and Rubin walk we should be able to gain some compensatory picks in the draft this year. As long as Farmer isn’t drafting that should make life a little easier on the next regime.

I feel bad for them too. They have tough decisions to make on who to keep and let go as well as trying to try and convince free agents to sign here. This team is not fixable by one draft and will need free agents to come in and try and change the culture. This season is done but here’s looking forward to another year where hopefully things can change.
