10 Matches That Should Have Been the Main Event at WrestleMania

Hulk Hogan Ultimate Warrior

3. Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior II – WrestleMania VII

Anyone recall the promo’s during WM 6 of Rick Rude running the beach, Mr.Fuji jogging and The Bushwackers waddling down a street? The promo was for WrestleMania VII, which was set at first to take place at the massive LA Coliseum, a place that can hold over 100,000 fans.

The match that was set to headline the card was going to be a rematch of the WM 6 main event – that being The Ultimate Warrior defending his title against the man he beat at WM 6 – Hulk Hogan.

The match at WM 6 was one of the best in the career of both men, and it would have been great to see it take one full year to get the second bout.

Instead, the company tried to take advantage of the Gulf War, and brought in retread Sgt.Slaughter to take the belt from Warrior at the Rumble that year, and to take on Hogan at the main event of Mania.

It was an awful decision that held little drama, and fans seemed to turn on the match, and the interest level was so low they moved the card from the LA Coliseum to the LA Sports Arena, in the process going from a 100,000 seat venue to one that held under 20,000.

Once again a match that could have been special was scrapped for a very below the belt storyline.

I disagree completely on Hogan vs Flair. Even as a nine year old mark I didn’t want to see that match and loved it when it was changed to Macho Man vs Flair. Also disagree on Triple H vs Cena 2. Absolutely hated Trips back then, so seeing him in another WM title match would have crapped me out. Warrior vs Hogan 2 would have been fun, but then we wouldn’t have gotten the awesome Warrior vs Savage career ending match. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened with Macho though.
