10 Matches That Should Have Been the Main Event at WrestleMania

Punk Bryan

5. Daniel Bryan vs CM Punk – WrestleMania XXX

The two hottest wrestlers in WWE the year leading up to WM 30 was for sure CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. Punk had lost the WWE Title to The Rock before WM 29, and never gained it back, which was a shame. Instead he left after WM 29, came back a face, and had a bunch of silly feuds with the likes of Paul Heyman and his wrestlers. Bryan was making the transition from his tag team with Kane into being a singles star with a monster following after forming the ‘Yes’ movement.

True wrestling fans were salivating at the thought of Punk vs Bryan for the WWE Title at Mania, and for awhile it seemed like it might happen. Then, a number of factors got in the way, and eventually after the Royal Rumble two months before WM 30, Punk bailed on the company, unhappy with the decision that he was heading into a feud with Triple H.

Much like the Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart feuds of the 1990’s, these two could have had amazing 30-40 minute matches, and they deserved a spot on WrestleMania in the main event.

I disagree completely on Hogan vs Flair. Even as a nine year old mark I didn’t want to see that match and loved it when it was changed to Macho Man vs Flair. Also disagree on Triple H vs Cena 2. Absolutely hated Trips back then, so seeing him in another WM title match would have crapped me out. Warrior vs Hogan 2 would have been fun, but then we wouldn’t have gotten the awesome Warrior vs Savage career ending match. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened with Macho though.
