10 Matches That Should Have Been the Main Event at WrestleMania

John Cena Triple H

7. Triple H vs John Cena II – WrestleMania 23

At WrestleMania 22 these two had a great match with a somewhat surprising ending of Cena getting a submission out of HHH, who many felt would go over as the heel winning the belt in Chicago. The following year it appeared the best bet for the Mania main event in Detroit was going to once again be HHH vs Cena for the belt, but a major curveball totally changed everything.

In January, just two months before the biggest card of the year, HHH suffered a torn quad, and wound up watching Mania from the sidelines. Cena vs HHH II would have been a blast if they could have followed up on the year before, but instead the ultimate bench guy came in against Cena – that being Shawn Michaels.

Their 30 minute match was great, but HHH’s quad stole us what would have been a fun rematch at the biggest show of the year.

I disagree completely on Hogan vs Flair. Even as a nine year old mark I didn’t want to see that match and loved it when it was changed to Macho Man vs Flair. Also disagree on Triple H vs Cena 2. Absolutely hated Trips back then, so seeing him in another WM title match would have crapped me out. Warrior vs Hogan 2 would have been fun, but then we wouldn’t have gotten the awesome Warrior vs Savage career ending match. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened with Macho though.
